About the Suislaw National Forest
Mary's Peak Volunteer Project
This volunteer program is a cooperative venture between The
Siuslaw National forest and the Friends of Mary's Peak, two very committed
Mary's Peak organizations.
The mission of the program is to help preserve the mountain
as a valuable natural resource and to enhance the understanding and appreciation
of Mary's Peak as a special setting on the Siuslaw National Forest.
There are four main areas of interest in the program,
Education, Recreation, Maintenance and Security.
Volunteers will be working closely with other volunteers
and employees of the U.S. Forest Service. As a group, we will be
helping the more than 75,000 visitors a year appreciate, protect, and learn
about the unique values of Mary's Peak, the highest mountain in Oregon's
Coast Range.
We will also be providing service in the form of trail
maintenance, noxious brush cutting, trash patrol, signage, building and
maintenance of informational kiosks and general presence on the peak. |

What does a volunteer do?
You must be willing to enjoy the same scenery, trails, picnic and camping
facilities as our visitors. You must enjoy working with others and
be service oriented. You must be respectful to the environment of the peak
and be willing to learn and take direction. You will find all kinds
of weather conditions. You will work closely with Siuslaw National
Forest employees, members of the Friends of Mary's Peak and volunteer coordinators.
You can choose what area you want to participate in, whether working on
preserving trails, or educating visitors...we need your energy and talents.
